FAQs

Q) So how many breweries will be visiting?
A) Our goal is to visit over half the breweries in the state in five days. At last count that means we'll taste at twelve different breweries. The breweries (and one distillery) that we'll visit each day are listed here.
Q) Unfortunately, I work during the week and, as much as I'd like to, I can't blow off work on the weekdays. Can I just participate during the weekend?
A) We first recommend reassessing your life priorities. Seriously, how many days at work are you going to remember a decade from now?
Q) No, really, I've gotta work during the week. I've got kids to feed.
A) We do understand the reality for most folks is that it is tough to ride on a Tuesday. This trip is for you. We specifically have made the kickoff Saturday a loop around Burlington in order to maximize participation for folks that only able to take part in one day. The Sunday ride can also be done as a nice out-and-back from Burlington to Jericho.
Q) So there is no cost to participate?
A) In order to maximize the number of people involved, we did away with having an entry fee to ride. This also allows people to only ride one day of the trip without feeling like they were wasting money. That being said, we'd love to keep doing trips with this model in the future, so please check out our contribution page (and land yourself some cool VBBC gear). To ensure that we can all fit in the different breweries, we also need folks to sign up here.
Q) Is beer and food on the trip provided?
A) In order to keep costs down for this trip, all food is on you. We'll be giving food suggestions each morning with the itinerary for that day. While many of the tastings are free, the ones that aren't are your responsibility.
Q) Do I need to bring my own bike? Anything else I should bring bike related?
A) Yes. If you need a bike, rentals are available in Burlington at Skirack, North Star Sports, and Local Motion. We also recommend bringing a lock to ensure your bike is still around after you emerge from the breweries. It isn't a bad idea to bring a map holder to be able to easily refer to the route while riding.
Q) Do I need to wear a helmet?
A) Yup.
Q) Where did the idea for the Vermont Bike and Brewery Challenge come from?
A) The good people at the Vermont Brewers Association have been promoting the "Vermont Brewery Challenge" for years. To improve upon this noble idea we designed a trip that hits as many breweries as possible in six days, all under our own power.

Q) How do I get back to Burlington if can't do the whole five-day loop?
A) You can always ride your bike back early. Or if you need to be back quick and easy, we recommend giving Blazer Transportation a call at (802) 349-4269. They've got SUVs that can fit bikes and can get you back to Burlington from pretty much anywhere on the trip for around $70. We recommend reserving this at least a day in advance, but they said that they might be able to do this on a couple hours notice. Q) What if it rains? A) We'll ride in the rain. Then we'll probably linger in the breweries a bit before heading back into the rain. And repeat. Q) Where did the idea for the Vermont Bike and Brewery Challenge come from? |
