We occasionally get asked about the name of the company. "Is there a real Mount Major?" There is. Mount Major is a small mountain in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. At only 1,786 feet high, and with the hike to the summit lasting about an hour, it would seem a strange pick for the intimidating name "Major". However, the view from the top is a sweeping vista of Lake Winnipesaukee and many kids discover a love of hiking after conquering this peak. That to us seems like a pretty major impact for a small and accessible active adventure. That's the type of trips we put together.
Mount Major Adventures was founded by Scott Cavanaugh in order to lead unique trips in New England. A New Hampshire native, Scott has guided professionally for over a decade. He has focused on cycling trips since 2005, guiding a range of trips from the Tour de France to Napa Valley, but his favorites were always back in New England. Scott is known for his knowledge of the area and his passion to share it with others as well as for obsessing over every detail that can make a trip better. He lives with his wife Ashley and their baby daughter in the beautiful Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts.

"This was such a great experience! I met so many awesome people, both guides and participants, and the route was stunning. My only regret was that I had to leave!"
